Dear Delegates

At the recent CIMA meeting, a proposal was made by Dr Assaad Assaker, the Delegate from Lebanon, to hold the World Microlight and Paramotor Championships next year at a site in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. This bid had not been previously circulated to delegates and was given in the form of a Powerpoint presentation. Despite uncertainties, notably about the extent of the support that would be given by the French Microlight Federation (FFPLUM), delegates voted by a bare absolute majority to accept the bid, in preference to that from the Czech Republic.

Afterwards, it became clear to the CIMA Bureau that the security situation in Lebanon was still volatile, and that the foreign ministries of most countries active in CIMA were advising citizens against travelling to Lebanon. As a result, your Bureau unanimously decided at the end of last week to recommend to the FAI Executive Board that the CIMA plenary’s decision be invalidated. The FAI Secretary General has now informed me that this has been done. The decision to award the Championships to Lebanon is therefore now null and void.

The CIMA Bureau is now considering how to proceed further. I will keep you informed of any subsequent decisions.

Yours truly
Tomas Backman
CIMA President

Seguiremos informando.
